ABOUT THIS TREATMENT

The skin's barrier is its primary line of defence — and modern life is relentless at compromising it. Over-exfoliation, harsh products, environmental stress, medication side effects, and inflammatory conditions can all weaken it, leaving skin tight, reactive, perpetually dehydrated, and unable to function normally.

Barrier Repair is the Active Bond system's targeted response to this condition. Unlike other protocols, it does not include exfoliation — every step is calibrated to deliver barrier-building ingredients without any additional stimulus that might further compromise already fragile skin. The optional colloidal oat mask (Skin Relief Therapy) is used as a calming first step if the skin shows any reactivity after cleansing. The activator selection is a clinical decision: Silver is chosen when the primary presentation is redness, inflammation, and immune overactivation — its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties directly address the consequences of barrier loss. Platinum is chosen when the barrier has been damaged by a procedure or medication and requires deeper cellular repair to rebuild its structural integrity. The chitosan Second Skin Matrix membrane then acts as a temporary supplementary barrier — reducing trans-epidermal water loss and creating a protected healing environment for 20 minutes.

WHAT TO EXPECT
01

Barrier restoration

The skin's hydrolipid protective layer is rebuilt from the inside, not just moisturised on top.

02

Reduced reactivity

Skin becomes measurably less sensitive to triggers over a course of sessions.

03

Improved hydration retention

TEWLis reduced — skin holds moisture again rather than losing it as quickly as itis applied.

04

Relief from discomfort

The persistent tightness and sensitivity of compromised skin are significantly reduced from the first session.

THE EXPERIENCE
If you have been over-exfoliating at home with AHAs, BHAs, or retinol, your professional may recommend simplifying your home routine alongside the treatment series. Barrier Repair works best when the skin is given a period of calm both in the clinic and at home.
PROFESSIONAL NOTE
Cell Reset should ideally be your first Active Bond treatment, regardless of your primary skin concern. Think of it as calibrating your skin before the more targeted protocols begin. Your AXOME professional will advise on which protocol to follow with in your next session.
